Much of the most advanced thinking in CP, P2 and sustainable
business is published in the peer-reviewed journals about these topics. The journals
usually have articles, editorials, book reviews, and news updates. Most of them have
abstracts online, and full copies of articles can be accessed through the libraries of
many universities in developed countries. Authors can often be tracked down by their
names and institutions, and may be willing to email a copy of an article if it is not
otherwise available to you (but donīt abuse their generosity!).
An excellent resource for academic thinking and teaching is the
home page of the Organizations and Natural
Environment interest group of the Academy of Management. It has a big
bibliography of publications by members (who are mostly business professors), course
syllabi, teaching resources, and an email discussion group. The bibliographies
provide a good idea about what other journals besides those listed here are publishing on
these topics (there are quite a few).
The Journal
of Cleaner Production is arguably the leading journal in the field, with truly
international participation. It covers all aspects of CP.
Industry and
Environment Review is published by the UN Environment Programme. It contains the
latest news from the UN Cleaner Production program and global perspectives on CP.
Recent issues are available online.
Greener Management
International: The Journal of Corporate Environmental Strategy and Practice claims,
with good reasons, to be the leading quarterly management journal drawing together
strategic environmental and sustainability issues as they affect organisations worldwide.
It has a particularly good review of sustainable business news and policy around
the world.
Corporate Environmental
Strategy calls itself the "International Journal of Corporate
Sustainability" and focuses on top-level discussion and program management. .
Environmental
Quality Management was recently merged with Pollution Prevention Review. It is
somewhat oriented to North American professional P2 program staff, environmental managers,
engineers, quality directors, and other environmental professionals.
Business Strategy
and the Environment seeks to provide original contributions which add to the
understanding of business responses to improving environmental performance. It
includes short "BSE Briefings" as well as refereed papers.
Corporate Social
Responsibility and Environmental Management has a focus on practical advice for the
development of tools, practical case studies and an assessment of the relative strengths
and weaknesses of different approaches.
Clean
Technologies and Environmental Policy. The Clean Technology thrust covers
science and engineering of technologies, and mathematical and computer-based methods and
models for designing, analyzing, and measuring cleanliness of products and processes. An
additional aspect of this thrust involves the management of environmental systems such as
ecosystems, watersheds, and manufacturing networks. The Environmental Policy thrust
of the journal covers advances in research in scientific, social, behavioral, and
economics disciplines that are relevant to complex environmental policy issues.
The International
Journal of Life Cycle Assessment covers product and process design, analysis methods,
policy and news. The website provides links to LCA organizations around the world.
International Journal of Environmentally
Conscious Design and Manufacturing is oriented to engineering and design and has been
around since 1992.
Journal of Industrial Ecology has
macro-scale and case study discussion of industrial ecology principles.
Journal of Sustainable Product Design
covers economic, environmental, ethical and social issues in product design and
development.
Resource Conservation and
Recycling includes a wide variety of articles including product design, producer
responsibility, and cleaner production.
The Journal
of Material Cycles and Waste Management is an official publication of the Japan
Society of Waste Management Experts. It covers research in technical, political, and
environmental problems of material cycles and waste management;
Tomorrow Magazine is focused on
sustainable industry, with daily and monthly news headlines and an archive, a directory of
corporate environmental reports and a director of environmental managers of leading
companies, and feature articles.
Green Futures is the leading UK
magazine on sustainability, with a significant focus on sustainable business.
Green@Work is focused on greening
the daily activities of business.
Sustainable Development International
publishes a magazine and newsletter. The website has resources on a broad range of
topics.
